Seems this well illustrates one of the themes of your blog (as I perceive it). People think it's all about them and not about Him. How do we reach people like that?
One has to marvel at the Lord's question, "When the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?"
Sadly the truth is more subtle than this. When folks testify about all the things God does for them, their experiences, how God answers their prayers, then the words and actions of the real "me" church are known. Yet these things are repeated thousands of times a week and accepted as the real church, our real God, the real purpose of it all.
Awakd to righteousness and sin not - I Corinthians 15:34
One of the choruses I have had trouble with for a long time is this one: "God is so good, God is so good, God is so good to me. He answers prayer, He answers prayer, He answers prayer, He's so good to me."
The logical question is this: "If God does NOT answer my prayer, is He still good to me?"
The biblical answer is, "Yes, of course." But is that what many (most) in the pew think?
Rich -- you're more charitable on that question than I am. Sadly, I'm inclined to believe there's very little thought that goes into songs like that at all. A far cry from:
See from his head his hands his feet Sorrow and love flow mingled down Did ere such love and sorrow meet Or thorns compose so rich a crown?
Ah the perfect example of following self. giggle giggle this is a funny video.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the love and the visit to "The Writing on the Wall."
ReplyDeleteCatchy name for a handle. I think I'll be back to check in on some of your own musings.
Peace,
